Vientiane

Downtown

Vientiane, "City of the Moon," is a quiet place.  The building on the left
was built by Russia, but never occupied due to design defects.

Traditional Lao Buddhist Sculpture

The "Calling for Rain" posture is never seen in other Southeast Asia Buddhist art traditions.

Pha That Luang (Great Sacred Stupa)

Legend has it that Ashokan missionaries from India erected a stupa here to enclose a
breastbone of the Buddha as early as the 3rd Century BC, but this is unconfirmed.

Outside Vientiane

Ornate Shrine

An ornate shrine on the road to Ang Nam Ngum.
