The Maya
originally settled here in 700 BC. Around 700 AD, a new and powerful king
named Ah-Cacau
(Lord of Chocolate, 682-734 AD), 26th successor of Yax-Moch-Xoc, ascended the
throne and restored
Tikal's primacy as the most resplendent Mayan city. The greatness of Tikal
collapsed around 900 AD.
